Emperors of Time is a time travel novel, so I researched a variety of settings and historical events to put into the novel. I think I stayed pretty faithful to the history, but if you want to know more about the people, places, and events that I mention in the novel, I have provided some pictures, links, and information below.
My characters end up in one of the shadier parts of 1916 San Francisco when they go to The Tenderloin. You can find more information about it at this website, "Up From the Deep", which is also where I got this picture. It's a picture of the area in 1926, which is 10 years after the action of the story takes place, but it should still give you a good idea of what we are talking about.

The characters also visit Wright's Ferry Mansion. The picture here comes from a Lancaster County tourism site, which does a good job of explaining the historical significance of this building which has stood in Columbia, Pennsylvania since 1738.
This website gives some information about a historical event that the main characters witness, as well as this image of the bridge at Wrightsville, across the river from Columbia, beginning to burn during the civil war.
In 1916, there was a parade in San Francisco to show how prepared Americans were to enter the Great War. An anti-war group bombed this Preparedness Day Parade to show that America was not universally so prepared. This historical bombing plays a critical row in the novel. The picture below, which is a photograph of the parade in full swing just before the bomb goes off, killing 10 and wounding many. It comes from this website, where you can also find some more information about the bombing.
More info and pictures will be coming soon. In the meantime, go ahead and read these reviews to see if you want to buy the book.
Emperors of Time.
Tim is a shy history nerd, Julie is popular and smart, Billy is athletic and confident, and Rose is clever and quirky. But what none of them understand is why Steven Hopkins, a Time Traveler from the 24th century, has chosen them to take on the Emperors of Time.
The four teens must travel back to 1916 San Francisco to stop the past from being changed. If they fail, the self-proclaimed Emperors of Time will control the future.
Their adventure takes them from a bridge over the Susquehanna River in the days before the Battle of Gettysburg to a settlement of outcasts from the Emperors' futuristic paradise. Once they travel to the early 20th century, they visit some of the seediest and the swankiest parts of 1916 San Francisco.
